The age of complete transparency

“Why Transparency in Grantmaking Matters”

By – Amy Costello Reference

Transparency is a critical aspect of grant-making, as it promotes accountability and trust between funders, grantees, and the public. Transparency helps to ensure that grant-making processes are fair, impartial, and based on merit, rather than on personal or political connections.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for greater transparency in the grant-making process, with many organizations and donors implementing new policies and procedures to increase transparency. Some funders now require grantees to report on their progress regularly and to provide detailed information about how they are using grant funds.

For example, the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program has strict reporting requirements, including regular progress reports, financial reporting, and monitoring of the project’s impact. In addition, the European Commission has implemented a public procurement policy that requires all contracts and grants to be published online, providing transparency to the public.
